John Smeaton Academy

John Smeaton Academy is an Academy School for 11- to 21-year-olds in between Scholes, Cross Gates, Barwick-in-Elmet, Pendas Fields and Swarcliffe, in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. This school was turned into an academy in 2014 sponsored by United Learning.
The school is named after John Smeaton of Austhorpe, Leeds, the 18th-century civil engineer.
In January 2008 the school was inspected by Ofsted, who reported that it was "A good school with outstanding features".
School reconstruction, in association with Leeds City Council and a privately owned business, began in 2004 and was completed in 2007. The school was re-opened in 2008 by John Smeaton, a baggage handler who helped thwart the attempted terrorist attack on Glasgow Airport.
The school has previously been called John Smeaton Community High School and John Smeaton Community College.
